Our Charming Hotel

Passionate about history and old stones. Welcome !!!

We are happy to welcome you in all simplicity in this charming 17th century Manor. You can relax in your quiet room or stroll in our large wooded park or relax on the terrace around our square and beautifully flowered courtyard typical of the Manoirs du Bessin.

The Manoir de Mathan was a private residence for a long time before being completely renovated in 2008. It now has 21 rooms, some of which are on the ground floor with a view of the park and / or the charming square courtyard. The hotel’s park stretches to a country lane and includes a small pond protected by a wooden fence. In the park, a bread oven resembling a small stone house and an old press giving a bucolic charm to the place, previously used for everyday life. Rest, landscape amenities and moments of relaxation punctuate the life of Manoir de Mathan.

All rooms are personalized by us. They all have antique and authentic furniture found in neighboring flea markets and auction rooms, exposed stones and beams, period fireplaces as well as very high quality bedding. They are also all equipped with a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi connection, a welcome tray and a private bathroom with toiletries and hairdryer. Spacious and elegant, a room specially equipped for people with reduced mobility is available on the ground floor of the hotel.

Standard, Traditional, Superior, Junior Suite, Suite and Familial, the hotel’s rooms subtly harmonize modern comfort and an atmosphere of yesteryear of incredible charm.

A little bit of history…

Several times enlarged since its first construction, the triangular pediments that adorn the entrance doors date back its first construction to the 17th century, 1605 to be precise. Solid wood beams, exposed stones and furniture found in flea markets around Bayeux, this manor cultivates the charm of its unique architectural setting, which can be found in this part of Calvados and especially in Bessin.

The Fief de Mathan – in Calvados in Normandy – was under the control of the King and the Manor of Mathan became the property of the Hue de Mathan family until the 19th century. From the end of the 17th century, the house was doubled in length, a new building was then added to make the link with barns, sheds and stables, then the roof was raised, to give today three buildings of character ordered around a square courtyard and a charming hotel in Normandy. Perfectly renovated with noble materials, freestone or slate, the Manoir de Mathan has a sober and elegant facade with pilasters in light relief and triangular pediments. Each part of the hotel opens with several stone staircases, allowing visitors easy access to the rooms and suites. The interior decoration of the hotel is neat, exposed beams, wrought iron railings, furniture found in secondhand markets with the sense of authenticity and detail that offers stays in Calvados and quality weekends.
