Le Manoir de Mathan is a 3 star hotel full of charm,situated at Crépon in the Calvados region of Normandy between Bayeux, Arromanches and the D-Day beaches. The manor-house dates back to the 17th century and has been transformed into a hotel offering a moment of tranquility in an exceptional environment full of charm within it’s manicured grounds. The manor-house belonged to the Mathan family until the 19th century and it’s two buildings were renovated into a beautiful hotel.

The second world war turned Normandy into a powder-keg and buildings were seized. Today, the manor-house,initially a private residence of Isabelle Sileghem’s family, has been completely renovated in 2007. There are 21 rooms, some of which on the ground floor, overlook the courtyard with it’s flower beds and surrounding garden. The hotel’s grounds extend all the way to a country path and includes a big pond protected by a wooden fence. There is also a little stone house adding rural charm, hen house, a delight for the children and an old cider press which was used in everyday life. There is a relaxed pace of life at the manor-house within it’s attractive grounds. The breakfast room decorated with beautiful old furniture found in local brocantes gives a cosy feeling with lots of charm. The gourmet restaurant is just 600 meters on foot from the hotel.

Each bedroom has it’s own individual and elegant style from four poster beds, carved headboards, solid wood chest of drawers and wardrobes,coffee tables or hearth pillars. Guests will discover the quality and originality of the room’s own decor. There is also a number of rooms on the ground floor including a spacious room fully fitted for people with reduced mobility. Traditional,superior,children and family suites,with possibility of adding an extra third bed in some of the more spacious rooms. Each room has a beautiful view over the inner courtyard and gardens. The cosy charm of Mathan manor-house makes it a very calm and peaceful environment and only 5 kms from the Normandy beaches.


A little bit of history….

The manor-house has been extended several times since i twas first built,the triangular pediments set over the doors indicating i twas built in the 17th century. It’s charm and unique architecture,with wooden beams,exposed stone walls and authentic  furniture, typical of this part of Calvados.


The domain of Mathan in the Calvados region of Normandy,belonged to the King before becoming the property of the Hue family of Mathan until the 19th century. Since the 17th century,the house has doubled in length and a new building was added to join up the barns,store rooms and stables,and with the roof raised, it’s three buildings full of character around a big square courtyard has now become a charming hotel in Normandy. Meticulously refurbished with high quality materials,cut stone and slates,keeping it’s original features and it’s elegant facade with ornamental pilasters and triangular pediments. There are several stone stairs leading to different parts of the hotel enabling guests easy access to their rooms. The hotel has been decorated to a high standard,exposed beams,wrought iron banisters and antique furniture. It’s charm and authenticity offers guests a moment,whether a week-end or longer,a high quality accommodation.
