The main gate of the hotel, in cut stone, dates from
the 17th century and the crenellated battlements symbolize the lord’s
domain that the hotel became from the 15th
century. In 1463, the Duke of Normandy gave the hotel
and the lands surrounding it as a present to the Lord of the hotel,
in order to protect local farmers.
Over the centuries, Normandy was often coveted and the
Ferme built a subterranean passage leading to the chateau de Creuilly and
to Fontaine Henry, to ensure a supply line in case of siege.
The second World War turned Normandy into a battleground
and the hotel and it’s domain became an airfield
and a supply and ammunition post.
Acquired by the family of Isabelle Sileghem, the hotel
was initially a private home. One day, a couple visiting Normandy asked for
hospitality because their car had a breakdown. That is how the hotel
became a guesthouse and later a charming private hotel.
A unique, admirably preserved specimen of medieval Norman
architecture, the hotel is today a charming
hotel : cut stone, exposed beams and decorative furniture painstakingly acquired
from antique dealers, all conspire to tell the history of Normandy.
With its vaulted living room and monumental arched fireplace,
covered terraces near the hotel gardens and wall painting depicting a hunting
scene in Normandy, the hotel offers it’s guests
the charm of it’s 700-year-old existence.
Located between Bayeux and the D-day beaches, this charming
hotel is an ideal stopover when visiting Normandy.
